Some people have love, some people have god, some people have money — Sean Power & The Main Street Band have music.
Formed in Brisbane in 2023, Sean Power & The Main Street Band deliver a sound deeply rooted in classic rock, country, and blues, blending the honesty of 'three chords and the truth' with the energy of modern alternative guitar bands. Their music carries echoes of late '60s and '70s rock, combining raw Gretsch-driven guitar tones, layered harmonies, and lyrics that explore love, loss and the fragility of life. At times haunting, at times driving and immediate, their sound pays homage to artists like Neil Young and Crazy Horse while carving out its own identity.
The band’s live performances have quickly earned attention, with highlights including Byron Bay Bluesfest, Town & Country Festival, a month-long headlining residency at The Triffid, and opening for The Black Sorrows on their South East Queensland tour. The band has also been featured on ABC Grass Roots and regional radio stations across Australia.
The story of the band began when Sean Power was invited to play lead guitar for Woodshed on a tour that included opening for James Blundell. After the tour, the group evolved into The Main Street Band, with the lineup solidifying during their residency at The Triffid. Brazilian guitarist Rafael Sodre brings the fuzzed-out tones and Southern Rock influences from years of touring with one of Brazil's top live acts. Russell “Rusty” Napier layers rich melodic harmonies with acoustic, baritone, and electric guitars, adding textures that build the band’s signature wall of sound. Jason Greene (drums) and classically trained Tim Kemp (bass) form the tight rhythm section that underpins the band’s dynamic performances. At the helm is Sean Power — veteran of the Sydney music scene, songwriter, and recording engineer — who leads the band with his vocals and guitar work.
Determined to capture the energy of their live shows, the band self-produced their debut album Black Letter Day at Russell Napier’s home studio, with Sean engineering and recording the sessions. The result is a record that reflects the band’s raw honesty and musical chemistry.
